Flat Creek Journal --Feb 26th/09
Well, as Feburary comes to an end, the pear trees are popping into bloom here in downtown El Dorado. We have several hundred Bradford Pear Trees which are alway in full bloom by the first week in March. This year is no exception. As I look out my office window it looks like a sea of white. That sight makes me know another Arkansas spring is here.
We're heading for Chicago this weekend, and from what I can tell, by looking at the long range weather, Chicago ain't gonna see spring for a while. I'm taking my ski undergarments. I haven't spent much time in Chicago--mostly just the airport, but I'm looking forward to this trip. We've got a reservation at Obama's favorite restaurant, and we're staying at the Four Seasons Hotel--(got a 3 days and pay for 2 deal) However, the main reason we're going is to attend the National Main Street Annual meeting. El Dorado is a Main Street town, and we've been nominated as one of the top Main Street towns in the nation. We're in the top 15 now and have our fingers crossed that we'll be named one of the top five small towns in the U. S.---I'll keep everyone posted.
As you know, if you've read my profile, I'm a writer. I love to write and I spend several hours a day writing on various novels, or writing a newspaper column. Being creative is very satifying for me. Of course, there aren't many writers that, after spending hours working on a novel, wouldn't like to see it published. I was lucky early in my writing to have The Red Scarf published, but since then it's been tough to find an agent to represent my other works. I've got a great novel set in a southern college during the late 1950s, that's the best thing I've written. I'll add the first chapter in a later blog. The name of the novel is Choices--a love story with some twists that will surprise you.
Check my blog later in the day for a first chapter preview of the novel.
More later.
